Stefan number
Builds on Dimensionless numbers in fluid mechanicsHeat capacityLatent heat
Definition
Let a material melt or freeze at temperature , with latent heat per unit mass. Let be the specific heat capacity of the relevant phase. Let be a characteristic temperature difference, such as for a boundary temperature . The Stefan number is the dimensionless number
Remarks
Example: for liquid water, kilojoules per kilogram per kelvin and kilojoules per kilogram. A boundary held kelvin above degrees Celsius gives .
Non-example: the ratio is the reciprocal of the Stefan number, not the Stefan number; some authors use it, so the convention should be checked.
With the latent heat per unit volume , the same number reads .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
