Lie algebra homomorphism
Builds on Lie algebraLinear map
Definition
Let and be Lie algebras over the same field . A Lie algebra homomorphism is a -linear map such that for all .
Remarks
A bijective homomorphism is an isomorphism; its inverse is again a homomorphism.
Example: let carry the zero bracket. The trace is linear, and . So the trace is a homomorphism, with kernel .
Non-example: if and , the transpose on is linear but does not preserve brackets. One has , which differs from whenever , for instance for and . The map , on the other hand, is a homomorphism.
The kernel of a homomorphism is an ideal of , and its image is a subalgebra of .
