Definition
Let be a measure space and let be a real or complex measurable function on . Its distribution function is for . Its decreasing rearrangement is for . Let and , and put The Lorentz space is the set of measurable with , modulo equality almost everywhere.
Remarks
Example: for , , because and have the same distribution function. So with equal norms.
Non-example: on with Lebesgue measure, is not in for . Here , so and the integral diverges. It does lie in , with .
The space is the weak space, since . For fixed , the spaces increase with : when . In general is only a quasinorm.
