Measure and integration Measurable functions Concept

Distribution function of a measurable function

Summary

The distribution function of a measurable function ff records, for each level t≥0t \ge 0, the measure of the set where ∣f∣\abs{f} is larger than tt. It forgets where the large values of ff sit and keeps only how much room they take. Many quantities, such as the LpL^p norms, depend on ff only through its distribution function. It is the starting point for the layer cake formula, rearrangements, weak LpL^p spaces and interpolation.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
