Definition
Let be a topological space and let be its extension in a model of nonstandard analysis that is an enlargement. For an open set , write for its extension. The monad of a point is A point is infinitely close to if .
Remarks
Example: for with the usual topology, is the field of hyperreal numbers. A hyperreal lies in exactly when for every positive integer , that is, when is infinitesimal; so for every infinitesimal . Non-example: for and a positive infinitesimal , the hyperreal is not in , since it is not in . The standard part of a finite hyperreal is the unique real with . Standard characterizations in an enlargement: is Hausdorff if and only if distinct points have disjoint monads. is compact if and only if every point of lies in the monad of some point of . A map is continuous at if and only if .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
