Definition
Let be a topological space. For a family of subsets of and a point , the star of in is . A development of is a sequence of open covers of with the following property. For every and every open set with , there is with . The space is developable if it has a development. A Moore space is a developable space that is regular and Hausdorff.
Remarks
Every metric space is a Moore space. Let be the cover by all open balls of radius . Every ball of that contains lies in the ball , so , and this lies in for large. A set with two points and the indiscrete topology is developable, with for all , because is the only open set containing a point. It is not a Moore space, because it is not Hausdorff. Some authors do not include regularity or the Hausdorff condition in the definition, so the word should be checked in each text.
