Definition
Let be an integer, and let be a topological space. The space is -connected if both of the following hold:
- is nonempty and path-connected;
- for every and every with , where is the homotopy group.
Remarks
Equivalently, is nonempty and for every continuous map extends to a continuous map . So -connected means path-connected, and -connected means simply connected. By convention, -connected means nonempty.
Example: the sphere is -connected, since for .
Non-example: is not -connected, because , so clause 2 fails for .
A pair is called -connected if every path component of meets and for and all .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
