Nullity
Definition
Let be a field, let and be vector spaces over , and let be a linear map. The nullity of is the dimension of the kernel of . The nullity of a matrix is the nullity of the map , the dimension of the null space of .
Remarks
The nullity is if and only if is injective. For an matrix, the nullity is the number of free variables of . By the rank–nullity theorem, when is finite-dimensional.
Explanations
L1 human
The nullity counts the dimensions that the map crushes to zero. The projection of space onto a plane crushes one direction, so its nullity is . Rank counts what survives, and nullity counts what is lost.
What this node needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
