Definition

Let GG be a topological group. An open subgroup of GG is a subgroup HH of GG that is an open set of GG.

Remarks

Example: in ℝ×ℤ\R \times \Z with the product topology, where ℤ\Z is discrete, the subgroup ℝ×{0}\R \times \set{0} is open, because {0}\set{0} is open in ℤ\Z. Non-example: ℤ\Z is a subgroup of (ℝ,+)(\R, +) but it is not open, since no interval around 00 lies in ℤ\Z. A subgroup HH is open if and only if it is a neighbourhood of the identity ee. Indeed, if U⊆HU \subseteq H is a neighbourhood of ee, then hU⊆HhU \subseteq H is a neighbourhood of each h∈Hh \in H.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
