Mechanics of deformable solids Linear elasticity Concept
Poisson's ratio
Summary
Poisson's ratio measures how much a material contracts sideways when it is stretched along one axis. It is minus the ratio of the transverse strain to the axial strain in uniaxial tension. For isotropic linear elastic materials it lies between and , and together with Young's modulus it determines the material.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
