Postnikov tower

Definition
Let be a path-connected space with base point, and let denote the -th homotopy group. A Postnikov tower of is a sequence of pointed path-connected spaces , , with pointed maps and for , such that:
- for all .
- induces an isomorphism for all .
- for all .
Remarks
Every path-connected CW complex has a Postnikov tower, built by attaching cells of dimension at least to to kill for . Up to homotopy, can be taken to be a fibration, and then its fibre is an Eilenberg–MacLane space . The map from to the homotopy limit of the tower is a weak homotopy equivalence.
Example: let . Take a point for and for , with the evident maps. Clause 2 holds since for , and clause 3 holds since for .
Non-example: for , the choice with fails clause 3, since . A valid choice is , a .
