Prandtl number
Definition
Consider a fluid with density , dynamic viscosity , specific heat capacity at constant pressure and thermal conductivity . Let be its kinematic viscosity and its thermal diffusivity. The Prandtl number of the fluid is
Remarks
It is a dimensionless number: and both have dimension . Example: air at room temperature has , and water has . Non-example: the ratio is not the Prandtl number; it is not dimensionless, since the factor is missing. For the thermal boundary layer is thinner than the velocity boundary layer, and for (as in liquid metals) it is thicker.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
