Proof of the Brahmagupta–Fibonacci identity
Builds on Commutative ring
Proof
We expand both sides, using the laws of a commutative ring.
- The left side is .
- We have and .
- Adding the two lines of step 2, the terms cancel. The sum is , which is the left side by step 1.
- Next, and .
- Adding the two lines of step 4, the terms cancel again. The sum is again the left side.
- Steps 3 and 5 prove both equalities.
Idea
Each square on the right gives two of the four products and a cross term . The signs are chosen so that the cross terms cancel. Over the complex numbers this is for and .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
