q-Pochhammer symbol
Definition
Let and be complex numbers, and let be an integer. The -Pochhammer symbol is with . If , the infinite -Pochhammer symbol is the infinite product
Remarks
For the product defining converges, since ; it is zero exactly when some factor is zero. Example: , by the definition with and . Non-example: for and , the factors do not tend to , so the infinite product does not converge and is not defined. The name comes from the limit as , the rising factorial or Pochhammer symbol. The generating function for partitions reads for .
