Reduced K0
Builds on RingK0 of a ringQuotient group
Definition
Let be a ring with identity, and let be the class of the free module in . The reduced of is the quotient group the cokernel of the homomorphism , .
Remarks
A finitely generated projective module has class in exactly when it is stably free. Indeed, if with , then for some with and some finitely generated projective . Adding a module with gives . So exactly when every finitely generated projective -module is stably free.
If is commutative and nonzero with connected, for instance an integral domain, the rank gives a split surjection , and is isomorphic to its kernel. Then .
Example: for a field , , so .
Non-example of vanishing: for , with , so . The generator is the class of , which is projective but not stably free.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
