Definition
Let be a ring with identity. is semiprimitive if its Jacobson radical , the intersection of all maximal left ideals of , is .
Remarks
Example: is semiprimitive, since its maximal ideals are for primes and . Non-example: the local ring of fractions with denominator prime to is not semiprimitive, since . Equivalently, is a subdirect product of left primitive rings, or has a faithful semisimple left module. The definition is left-right symmetric, because is also the intersection of the maximal right ideals. Other names are Jacobson semisimple and J-semisimple.
