SKI combinator calculus
Builds on Lambda calculusRewriting system
Definition
Fix a countable set of variables. The SKI terms are defined by these rules.
- Every variable and each of the constants , , is a term.
- If and are terms, then is a term.
Application associates to the left, so means . Weak reduction is the least relation on terms with two properties. First, it contains the rules for all terms . Second, if then and . The SKI combinator calculus is the set of SKI terms with weak reduction, a rewriting system.
Remarks
Example: behaves like . For every term , .
Non-example: alone is not a redex. The rule for needs two arguments, so is in normal form whenever is.
Combinatory completeness: for each term and variable there is a term without such that for all . One can take , if does not occur in , and otherwise. This translates every term of the lambda calculus into an SKI term with the same behavior on arguments.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
