Slice category

Summary

The slice category ๐’ž/X\mathcal{C}/X of a category ๐’ž\mathcal{C} over an object XX has the morphisms into XX as objects. Its morphisms are the commuting triangles over XX. It is the comma category (1๐’žโ†“X)(1_{\mathcal{C}} \downarrow X). Slice categories describe objects "over a base": families of sets indexed by XX, spaces over a base space, and schemes over a base scheme. The dual notion is the coslice category X/๐’žX/\mathcal{C} of morphisms out of XX, such as the category of pointed sets.

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
