Special relativity
Summary
Special relativity is the physical theory of space and time in the absence of gravity. Its model of spacetime is Minkowski space, and observers in uniform motion are related by Lorentz transformations instead of Galilean transformations. It explains why the speed of light is the same for every inertial observer. It is the starting point of general relativity and of relativistic quantum theory.
