Sub-Gaussian distribution
Builds on Random variableMoment-generating functionNormal distribution
Definition
Let be a real random variable. is sub-Gaussian if there is a constant such that A distribution on is sub-Gaussian if a random variable with this distribution is sub-Gaussian.
Remarks
Up to changing by a constant factor, the condition is equivalent to each of the following: ; and for all . If , it is also equivalent to a bound on the moment-generating function: there is with for all real . In this last form one says that is sub-Gaussian with variance proxy . Example: if is normal with mean and variance , then , so is sub-Gaussian with variance proxy . Example: by Hoeffding's lemma, if and , then , so is sub-Gaussian with variance proxy . Non-example: an exponential variable with rate has , and fails for large , whatever is. If are independent and centred with variance proxies , then has variance proxy .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
