Subfactor

Summary

A subfactor is an inclusion N⊆MN \subseteq M of factors, von Neumann algebras with trivial center, that share the same identity. For factors of type II1\mathrm{II}_1, Vaughan Jones attached to such an inclusion a number [M:N][M:N], the index. It measures the relative size of MM over NN. The Jones index theorem shows that the possible index values are surprisingly restricted. Subfactor theory connects operator algebras with knot invariants, quantum groups, tensor categories and conformal field theory.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
