Tate cohomology
Definition
Let be a finite group and let be a -module, a module over the group ring . Let be the submodule of elements fixed by , and let be the module of coinvariants, where is generated by all . The norm map is ; it induces a map . The Tate cohomology groups , for , are:
- for , the group cohomology.
- .
- .
- for , the group homology.
Remarks
Equivalently, is the cohomology of for a complete resolution . A complete resolution is an exact complex of projective -modules indexed by that agrees with a projective resolution of in nonnegative degrees.
Example: let be cyclic of order and let with trivial action. Then and is multiplication by . So and . For cyclic , for every and every .
Example: for , all groups vanish. In degree , both and equal .
Non-example: for an infinite group , the sum is not defined, so the definition needs finite.

- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
