Theory
Builds on SignatureSentencePredicate logic
Definition
Let be a signature. An -theory is a set of sentences of first-order logic in the signature .
Remarks
Example: in the signature , the set of the three sentences , and is a theory, the theory of groups. Each of its elements is a formula without free variables, so it is a set of sentences.
Non-example: the set is not a theory, because the variable is free in its only formula.
Some authors require a theory to be closed under logical consequence; a set of sentences is then called a set of axioms for the theory it generates. For an -structure , the set of all -sentences true in is the theory of .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
