Abel–Poisson summation of Fourier series
Builds on Fourier seriesAbel summationPoisson kernelRiemann integrable functionPeriodic function
Definition
Let be complex numbers, and consider the trigonometric series , summed symmetrically as . For and real put whenever this series converges. The series is Abel–Poisson summable at to if is defined for all and as . This is Abel summation of the symmetric series at .
Remarks
If is a Riemann integrable -periodic function and are its Fourier coefficients, then the are bounded, converges absolutely, and Here is the Poisson kernel of the unit disc.
Example: for one has and otherwise, so .
Non-example: for for all and , one gets . So the series is not Abel–Poisson summable at .
