statement proposition

Addition formulas for hyperbolic functions

Statement

For all real numbers xx and yy, sinh⁡(x+y)=sinh⁡xcosh⁡y+cosh⁡xsinh⁡y,\sinh(x + y) = \sinh x \cosh y + \cosh x \sinh y, cosh⁡(x+y)=cosh⁡xcosh⁡y+sinh⁡xsinh⁡y.\cosh(x + y) = \cosh x \cosh y + \sinh x \sinh y.

Remarks

Expand the right sides with the definitions and use ex+y=exeye^{x+y} = e^x e^y. With y=xy = x, they give sinh⁡2x=2sinh⁡xcosh⁡x\sinh 2x = 2 \sinh x \cosh x and cosh⁡2x=cosh⁡2x+sinh⁡2x\cosh 2x = \cosh^2 x + \sinh^2 x. Mathlib states the first formula as Real.sinh_add.

Explanations

These formulas look like the trigonometric addition formulas. The only change is the plus sign in the formula for cosh⁡\cosh.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 31 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.
