Calderón–Zygmund estimates
Statement
Let be an integer and let . Let be the Laplacian and let be the norm of the Lebesgue space . There is such that each satisfies
Remarks
On the Fourier side, . So , up to sign, where is the Riesz transform with multiplier . Each is a singular integral operator, and Calderón–Zygmund theory shows that such operators are bounded on for . The proof of that bound uses the Calderón–Zygmund lemma to get a weak type bound, then interpolation with the bound from Plancherel, then duality. The estimate fails for and for : a function with bounded Laplacian need not have bounded second derivatives. Combined with cut-off functions, the estimate gives the local estimates for solutions of , and by freezing coefficients for elliptic equations with continuous leading coefficients.

For a student
These estimates are the counterpart of the Schauder estimates in Hölder spaces. They are the main tool to show that a weak solution of an elliptic equation with an right-hand side has second derivatives in . They are also a model case of the general theory of singular integrals, which treats operators like the Riesz and Hilbert transforms.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
