Functions of a complex variable Definition
Clifford analysis
Definition
Let and let be the real Clifford algebra generated by with the relations and for . The Dirac operator on is , acting on differentiable functions from open subsets of to . Clifford analysis is the study of functions from open subsets of to by means of and related Dirac operators. Its main objects are the monogenic functions, the solutions of .
Remarks
The anticommutation relations give , where is the Laplacian of : the mixed terms cancel. So every monogenic function of class has harmonic components.
Example: for , with is a copy of , and only sees one real variable. To recover complex analysis one uses instead the operator on , which is twice the Wirtinger derivative ; many authors work with this operator on .
Non-example: harmonic analysis of real-valued functions alone is not Clifford analysis, since it uses only and not its first-order factor .
