Decomposition group

Summary

Let L/KL/K be a Galois extension of number fields, and let ๐”“\mathfrak{P} be a prime of LL. The decomposition group of ๐”“\mathfrak{P} is the subgroup of the Galois group that maps ๐”“\mathfrak{P} to itself. It surjects onto the Galois group of the residue field extension, and the kernel of this map is the inertia group. The decomposition group describes how ๐”“\mathfrak{P} splits, and it is the home of the Frobenius element. It is the Galois group of the local extension obtained by completing at ๐”“\mathfrak{P}.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
