Commutative algebra Integral extensions Concept

Finitely presented algebra

Summary

An algebra BB over a commutative ring AA is finitely presented if it can be described by finitely many generators and finitely many relations. That is, B≅A[x1,…,xn]/IB \cong A[x_1, \ldots, x_n]/I with II a finitely generated ideal. Over a Noetherian ring every finite type algebra is finitely presented, so the distinction matters only over non-Noetherian bases. Finite presentation is the right finiteness condition for limit arguments and for étale and smooth morphisms in algebraic geometry.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
