Generator of a semigroup

Summary

The generator of a strongly continuous semigroup (T(t))t≥0(T(t))_{t \ge 0} of operators is the derivative of T(t)T(t) at t=0t = 0. It is usually an unbounded, closed, densely defined operator AA. The semigroup solves the abstract Cauchy problem u′(t)=Au(t)u'(t) = Au(t), u(0)=xu(0) = x, through u(t)=T(t)xu(t) = T(t)x, and one writes T(t)=etAT(t) = e^{tA}. The generator determines the semigroup uniquely, so questions about evolution equations become questions about one operator.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
