Definition
Let be a group. A -module is an abelian group with an action of such that for all and . Equivalently, it is a module over the group ring . Let every element of act on as the identity. For , the -th cohomology group of with coefficients in is where is the Ext functor.
Remarks
With the bar resolution, is the cohomology of the complex of functions with So , the elements fixed by . And is the group of crossed homomorphisms, the maps with , modulo those of the form . If every element of acts on as the identity, then . Example: let act on by ; this is a -module, since is additive. Then . Indeed, a crossed homomorphism is determined by , with and no further condition. The principal ones have . Non-example: acting on by is an action, but not by additive maps, since is not fixed, so is not a -module for it.
