Measure and integration Definition
Hausdorff content
Builds on Metric space
Definition
Let be a metric space, and let . For , let , with . The -dimensional Hausdorff content of a set is The infimum is over all countable covers of by subsets of .
Remarks
The map is an outer measure on . It has the same null sets as the Hausdorff measure , so , with the convention . Example: in , . The cover by itself gives at most , and any countable cover has total diameter at least the Lebesgue measure . Non-example of additivity: in with , each of and has content . Indeed, a cover that uses a set of diameter at least has total at least . In a cover with all diameters below , one has , and the diameters add up to at least . But the single set covers their union, so the union has content at most .
