Integral of a Hopf algebra
Builds on Hopf algebraGroup algebra
Definition
Let be a field and let be a Hopf algebra over with counit . A left integral in is an element such that for all . A right integral in is an element such that for all .
Remarks
The left integrals form a subspace of , often written . Example: for a finite group , the element of the group algebra is a left and right integral. The check: for , , since is a bijection of ; linearity gives all . Non-example: in with , the element is not an integral, because for . In with and , a left integral must satisfy , so is the only integral. Some authors call these elements integrals in , and call integrals on the linear forms with .
