statement proposition

Modulus of the conjugate

Statement

For each complex number zz, ∣zˉ∣=∣z∣|\bar{z}| = |z|. Here zˉ\bar{z} is the complex conjugate of zz and ∣⋅∣|\cdot| is the modulus.

Remarks

Proof: for z=a+biz = a + b i, ∣zˉ∣=a2+(−b)2=a2+b2=∣z∣|\bar{z}| = \sqrt{a^2 + (-b)^2} = \sqrt{a^2 + b^2} = |z|. In the complex plane, this says that a reflection in the real axis does not change the distance to 00.

Explanations

L1 human

A number and its conjugate are mirror images in the real axis. A mirror keeps distances, so both numbers are at the same distance from 00.

What this node needs for W1
  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What this needs

To read this node, read these 11 nodes in this order. The foundations come first, and the list ends with this node.

Each node uses the nodes above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows the evidence level, and the box also gives it as text. The list below has the same nodes.
