Definition
Let be real numbers and let be a function. For and , the lower and upper derivatives of at are where ranges over . A major function of is a function with and for every . A minor function of is a function with and for every . Let be the set of major functions and the set of minor functions of . The function is Perron integrable on if both sets are nonempty and The Perron integral of is this value.
Remarks
For any major function and minor function , the difference is nondecreasing, so always holds.
Example: if is differentiable at every point of and , then is both a major and a minor function of . So is Perron integrable with integral , even when is not Lebesgue integrable.
Non-example: for and is not Perron integrable on . A nonnegative Perron integrable function is Lebesgue integrable, and .
A function is Perron integrable if and only if it is Henstock–Kurzweil integrable, and the two integrals agree.
