Piola–Kirchhoff stress tensors

Summary

The Piola–Kirchhoff stress tensors express stress in terms of the undeformed reference configuration of a body. The first one, P=JσF−TP = J \sigma F^{-T}, gives the actual force per unit undeformed area; the second one, S=F−1PS = F^{-1} P, is symmetric and fully referred to the reference configuration. Here σ\sigma is the Cauchy stress tensor and FF the deformation gradient, with J=det⁡FJ = \det F; these tensors are the natural stress measures in large-deformation problems.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
