Sequences, series, summability Definition
Ramanujan summation
Definition
Let be a smooth function on an open interval that contains , and let be the Bernoulli numbers, with . Assume that the series converges. The Ramanujan sum of the series is
Remarks
If is a polynomial, only finitely many derivatives are nonzero and the series in the definition is a finite sum.
Example: for , one has , and all higher derivatives vanish. So the Ramanujan sum of is . For , the Ramanujan sum of is .
Not a regular method: for the series converges to . From at one gets . Since , the Ramanujan sum is . It differs from the ordinary sum by .
Not stable: for with , the Ramanujan sum of is , not .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
