Semilocal ring
Builds on RingJacobson radicalSemisimple ring
Definition
Let be a ring with identity and its Jacobson radical. is semilocal if the quotient ring is semisimple, that is, semisimple as a left module over itself.
Remarks
By the Artin–Wedderburn theorem, is semilocal exactly when for division rings and integers . Example: is semilocal, since its Jacobson radical is and the quotient is . Non-example: is not semilocal: and is not semisimple, since the ideal has no complement. A commutative ring is semilocal if and only if it has finitely many maximal ideals; this is the commutative notion. The definition is left-right symmetric, and the spelling semi-local is also used.
