Definition
Let and be symplectic manifolds. A symplectomorphism from to is a diffeomorphism such that , that is for all and .
Remarks
Example: on with , let for a smooth function . It is a diffeomorphism with inverse , and .
Non-example: on the same plane is a diffeomorphism, but .
A linear map of is a symplectomorphism exactly when it lies in the symplectic group . The flow of a Hamiltonian vector field consists of symplectomorphisms. A symplectomorphism preserves the volume form , so it preserves volume; in dimension the converse holds for orientation-preserving diffeomorphisms.
