Definition
Let be a measurable space. For a probability measure on , let be the σ-algebra of the completion of . A subset is universally measurable if for every probability measure on .
Remarks
Every is universally measurable, since for every . The universally measurable sets form a σ-algebra, the intersection of all the . Let with its Borel σ-algebra, and let be Lebesgue measure on it. Then is the σ-algebra of Lebesgue measurable subsets of , and a Vitali set is not in it. So is not universally measurable. The definition is usually applied when is a Polish space and is its Borel σ-algebra; then every analytic set is universally measurable. Replacing probability measures by σ-finite measures gives the same family of sets.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
