Problem
Let be a real Hilbert space with inner product . Let be a nonempty closed convex set, and let be a map. Find such that
Remarks
If , then taking shows that the inequality holds exactly when , so the problem contains the equation . If for a convex differentiable function , then solves the problem exactly when minimizes on . Stampacchia's theorem treats the linear case. Let be a bounded coercive bilinear form on and let be a continuous linear functional on . Then there is exactly one with for all . When is symmetric, this minimizes over . For , compact and continuous, a solution always exists, by the Hartman–Stampacchia theorem, whose proof uses the Brouwer fixed point theorem. For a continuous monotone the solution set is closed and convex, and a strictly monotone has at most one solution.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
