Advection–diffusion equation
Definition
Let be open, let be a given velocity field, let be the diffusivity, and let be a given source term. The advection–diffusion equation for an unknown scalar is When is constant and the flow is incompressible, that is , it becomes where is the Laplacian.
Remarks
Example: in one dimension with constant , constant and , the function is a solution. Indeed where solves the heat equation , and then .
Non-example: with , the heat kernel itself is not a solution, since .
For the equation is the heat equation, and for it is the transport equation. When is a temperature, is the thermal diffusivity.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
