statement proposition
Compact subsets of a Hausdorff space are closed
Statement
Let be a Hausdorff space and let be a compact subset of . Then is closed in .
Remarks
Proof: fix . For each , choose disjoint open sets and . Finitely many cover . Then is an open set that contains and misses . The Hausdorff condition is needed. With the indiscrete topology on a set with two points, each one-point set is compact but not closed. Each metric space is Hausdorff, so compact subsets of metric spaces are closed.

In a Hausdorff space, you can separate a point outside from each point of by open sets. Compactness lets you do this with finitely many open sets at once, which gives an open set about the point that misses .

- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
