definition

Hausdorff space

Definition

A topological space XX is Hausdorff when for all points x≠yx \neq y of XX there are open sets UU and VV with x∈Ux \in U, y∈Vy \in V and U∩V=∅U \cap V = \varnothing.

Remarks

Each metric space is Hausdorff. Subspaces and products of Hausdorff spaces are Hausdorff. In a Hausdorff space, limits of sequences are unique and compact subsets are closed. Each Hausdorff space is T1. An infinite set with the cofinite topology is T1 but not Hausdorff. The Hausdorff condition is also called T2.

Explanations

L1 human

In a Hausdorff space, you can put any two distinct points into two open sets that do not meet. Most spaces of analysis, such as Rn\mathbb{R}^n, are Hausdorff.

What this node needs for W2
  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.

What depends on this
