Hadamard's maximal determinant problem
Builds on DeterminantHadamard's inequality
Problem
Let be an integer, and let denote the determinant. Find the largest value of over all matrices whose entries are all or .
Remarks
Hadamard's inequality gives for such matrices. Equality holds exactly when the rows of are pairwise orthogonal, that is, when is a Hadamard matrix. A Hadamard matrix of order can exist only for , or divisible by . The Hadamard conjecture, that one exists for every multiple of , is open. For other orders the maximum is smaller than , and it is known only for some values of .
The determinant of an matrix with entries is divisible by . The maximum for equals times the maximal determinant of an matrix with entries and . So the problem is the same as the maximal determinant problem for matrices.
Small cases: for , the maximum is , reached by . For , the bound and the divisibility by show that the maximum is at most , and is reached.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
