Definition
Let be a Riemannian manifold and . For , let . Let be the set of such that:
- lies in the domain of the exponential map ;
- restricted to is a diffeomorphism onto an open subset of .
The injectivity radius of at is . The injectivity radius of is the infimum .
Remarks
Example: on the unit sphere , for any , is a diffeomorphism from onto minus the antipode . It maps the whole sphere to , so no larger ball works, and .
Non-example: for the same on , the radius does not belong to , because is not injective on .
For with the Euclidean metric, for every . The injectivity radius is always positive at each point; if is compact, then . If is complete, is the distance from to its cut locus.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
