Jordan–Wigner transformation
Builds on Tensor product of Hilbert spaces
Definition
Let and let be the tensor product of copies of , with basis vectors and in each factor. Let and , so that and . For an operator on and , let be the operator on that acts as on the -th factor. It acts as the identity on the other factors. The Jordan–Wigner transformation defines, for , the operators These operators satisfy the canonical anticommutation relations where .
Remarks
Check of the relations: on one site is the identity, and , so and anticommute. For , the products and differ only at site , where they contain and , so . The occupation number is , and the inverse map is .
Example: with the Pauli matrices and , one finds . So the XX chain with open ends is a quadratic form in the fermion operators. The same computation applies to the transverse-field Ising model and to the XXZ model, where the term becomes a fermion interaction.
Non-example: the operators without the string do not anticommute on different sites. For instance , so .
Conventions differ between sources: some use or in place of , or the string .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
