Normalization

Summary

The normalization of an integral scheme XX is a normal scheme X~\tilde{X} with a morphism X~→X\tilde{X} \to X. It is built by taking the integral closure of each affine coordinate ring in its fraction field. It is the best normal approximation of XX: every dominant morphism from a normal integral scheme to XX factors through it. For curves it resolves singularities, which makes it a basic tool in the study of singular curves.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
