Functions of a complex variable Definition
Quasiregular map
Builds on Jacobian matrixJacobian determinant
Definition
Let , let be open, and let . A map is -quasiregular if:
- is continuous.
- lies in the Sobolev space , that is, its coordinates have locally -th power integrable weak derivatives.
- for almost every .
Here is the Jacobian matrix of weak derivatives, is its operator norm, and is the Jacobian determinant. A map is quasiregular if it is -quasiregular for some .
Remarks
Example: for , a holomorphic function on is -quasiregular. Its Jacobian matrix is a rotation times , so and .
Non-example: complex conjugation fails clause 3. Here but , so is false.
A quasiregular homeomorphism onto its image is a quasiconformal map. By a theorem of Reshetnyak, a nonconstant quasiregular map is open and discrete.
