Differentiable function of several variables
Definition
Let be an open set, let , and let . The function is differentiable at when there is a linear map such that Here the limit is over with , and is the Euclidean norm. The map is then unique. It is the derivative , also called the total derivative of at .
Remarks
This is the Fréchet derivative for the spaces and , where each linear map is continuous. A function that is differentiable at is continuous at , and all its directional derivatives exist at . The converse fails: a function can have all partial derivatives at a point and not be differentiable there, see this counterexample. For , the definition is the usual one, with .
Explanations
L1 human
A differentiable function looks flat when you zoom in on its graph near the point. For at , the change is . The linear part is , and the rest is small compared with .
What this node needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a node is. They do not measure its truth.
